Kayode Fashola and the Music Makers emerged in 1970 as one of the defining Juju groups of their time, shaping the sound of the 1970s with a blend of tradition and innovation. Guided by the vision and artistry of Kayode Fashola—gifted guitarist, composer, and custodian of Yoruba musical heritage—the band became celebrated for preserving the roots of Juju while pushing it into new creative territory. Their style combined the pulse of Yoruba rhythms with modern influences, producing a vibrant sound that resonated widely across Western Nigeria and beyond.   What set the Music Makers apart was their ability to balance cultural authenticity with freshness. Fashola’s commanding voice and masterful guitar work anchored performances that were both spirited and deeply rooted in Yoruba identity. Their songs often carried social reflections while celebrating tradition, ensuring their music functioned as both cultural expression and community storytelling during Nigeria’s post-independence years.   Over the course of the decade, the band recorded nine albums that showcased their growth and versatility. Early releases such as “Vol. 1” and “Vol. 2” established their foundation, followed by “Sound of Music – Vol. 3” in 1976. Their momentum continued with “Vol. 5” and “Vol. 6” in 1977, a second version of “Vol. 6” in 1978, along with “Vol. 7,” “Vol. 8,” and the uniquely titled “Wundia Ke-Ke-Ke.” Together, these works captured the energy of the era and solidified their reputation as masters of Juju.   The influence of Kayode Fashola and the Music Makers still echoes in Nigerian music today, a reminder of how deeply their artistry shaped the Juju tradition and how their legacy continues to inspire new generations of performers.
