Yaka Lokito

Yoka Lokito is a dynamic Congolese music duo that rose to fame in 1990 and left an indelible mark on the Congolese music scene. Comprised of Jossart N’yoka Longo and Ngouma Lokito, the duo was based in Cameroon but quickly gained recognition for their creative and expansive contributions to Soukous, the popular dance genre originating from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Their soulful vocals, energetic stage performances, and infectious rhythms captivated audiences, establishing them as one of the leading acts in the African music scene. One of their most popular records is “Tout Passe” from their debut album Atterrissage Force which showcases their expressive musical style and refreshing blend of traditional Congolese rhythms with futuristic sensibilities. The duo’s fast-paced, rapid-fire, and electrifying brand of Soukous elicited reactions from their audience and over the course of three albums, they delivered timeless and thrilling music that continues to captivate listeners to this day. Their 1995 album, Formule Plus, is heralded as their best work and features standout tracks such as “Le Gombo”, “Zembele,” and “Emmanuella”. Yoka Lokito’s work continues to be a part of the rich heritage of Congolese music and reflects the dynamic and influential nature of the soukous genre during the 1990s. Their legacy is a testament to the power of music to transcend borders and generations.
