Douglas Ederi Chukwueke was a Nigerian highlife musician and bandleader popular for his work with the Olariche International Guitar Band, also known as the Olariche Supersonic Band. The group is regarded for their contributions to the rich heritage of Nigerian highlife Chukwueke’s music is noted for its rhythmic arrangements and distinct fusion of African traditional music with Western jazz and swing influences. The group, formed in 1970, often preferred guitar centric arrangements that places emphasis on melodic guitar lines which is a hallmark of highlife music. Their music also packed a lot of cultural themes and their lyrics often reflect societal issues, storytelling, and proverbs. Some of his notable works include Ederi Nwolariche which was released in 1974. Their sophomore album Olariche Nde Nma which was released in 1981 is widely regarded as a Hall of fame Highlife album and exemplifies the groups his contributions to the highlife genre.
