White Eagles International were a legendary highlife band from Bayelsa, Nigeria, formed in the 1970s. The band became celebrated for their distinctive interpretation of Niger Delta highlife, creating infectious grooves that resonated deeply with audiences across southern Nigeria. The group made their recording debut in 1978 with their self-titled album, establishing themselves as formidable contributors to the Nigerian highlife scene. Their breakthrough came with popular tracks including “Sei-Oru” and “Sabagreia Ebiama,” which transformed them into household names throughout the region. White Eagles International maintained prolific output throughout the late 1970s and 1980s, delivering a steady stream of rhythm-driven compositions. Notable releases from this period include Elu Lee Akam Ala Lee Akam (1979), Egbesu On Tour (1979), and Top Highlife Stars (1983). The band’s creative momentum continued with Fi Okpo Emi (1985), followed by Udeibide Seitirilagha and Ye Ikpete Kumo (both 1986), and Paye Buoye (1987). The band’s 1988 offering Ine Temo Na (Listen To My Prayer) showcased their spiritual depth, while their 1991 release Vol. 13 – Epubila Di Kongha demonstrated their sustained artistic vitality. Additional albums including Don’t Run After Women, Aperi Egberiama, White Eagles Dance Time, and Okpo Bi Diweni further cemented their legacy as masters of Niger Delta highlife tradition.
